Joseph Herrera was born in Long Island, New York. Joe's pronouns are He, His, Him.
Joe started his journey into the fire service at the age of 14, as a junior firefighter for his local volunteer fire department, and started his professional firefighting career June 2006 in the 119th recruit school for the Fairfax County Fire Rescue Department.
Currently Joe is assigned to Fire Station 428 Seven Corners on A-Shift. Joe is also the founder and Chairperson of the Fire and Rescue Department's LGBTQ+ Employee Resource Group, and sits on the Board of Directors for the IAFF Local 2068 Fairfax County Professional Firefighters and Paramedics. Joe is also a member of the Fire and Rescue Department and Local 2068's Peer Support Team Program.
